I remember when our GM and his wife were expecting . We had a regular gaming group for a Forgotten Realms campaign that lasted a few years. My husband (fiancé at the time) and I would chat with the other players about what kind of geeky gifts would could shower on the geekling. After much web surfing, we finally made a decision. (The gift we chose will be listed with my other gift suggestions below.)
This was back in 2006. Since then I still receive questions from gamer friends about geeky baby shower gifts. I have been told numerous times that I’m a thoughtful gift giver, so I thought I’d make a list of some of my personal suggestions for Dungeons & Dragons/Pathfinder/fantasy Tabletop RP Gaming related baby shower gifts.
I’ll be adding to this list as I find new and geekalicious things that are fitting for the tiniest of our geekling spawn. For now, here are a few of my suggestions:
1. The Level 1 Human Baby Creeper from J!NX
This is the gift we gave to our GM and his wife. The little geekling looked absolutely adorable in this black onesie. Super cute, super comfy, super perfect for the gamer parent, uncle, aunt, or godparent.
Call it a wooby, a lovie, a comfort item or a security blanket. Most of us have had one. When I was a kid, I carried around one of my baby blankets until I was 12 years old. You read that right – 12 years old. It was tired, raggedy, and the holes. SO many holes! When we were expecting our first child, I searched the web for a special comfort item for our bundle of joy. Something other than a baby blanket. What I discovered was Bewhiskered Blankets. I fell in love with these wonderful, handmade creations, called Ruggles, from the first moment I saw them. They are wonderfully soft, blanket-like creatures. Pictured below you will see my son with his beloved dragon Ruggle, Big Blue. I had him custom made in the colors and fabrics of my choosing and his name is embroidered on the belly. The creator, Kenzie, was so patient and easy to work with. These Ruggles are the perfect comfort item for all children but the mystical creatures and her new line of Twisted Whiskers are absolutely perfect for geeks and geeklings alike! Browsing her gallery, you’ll see dragons, turtles, unicorns, owlbears, giraffes, dogs, leopards, pegasi. Have I mentioned that I’ve personally bought at least 6 of these for the littles in my life? Your GM’s baby needs one. Your gaming friends’ kids need one. YOU need one. Go get you one.
3. The WubbaNub™ DRAGON Pacifier
At first I really didn’t understand the point of a WubbaNub. Why would you want a pacifier with a stuffed animal hanging off of it? It wasn’t until we adopted our second child that I finally understand how wonderful these things truly are. The WubbaNub makes it easier for your little geekling to find and hold their pacifiers. When our daughter was about 3 months old, we could lay her dragon WubbaNub on her chest without worrying about it rolling off to never be found again. It is the soothie type pacifier which our pediatrician preferred our daughter use. Plus, it’s a dragon! Soft, cute, and suitable for a boy or a girl. We received a lot of compliments on our daughter’s dragon WubbaNub when we went to GenCon. Cute and functional!
Every gamer geek and geekling needs dice, right? While I wouldn’t recommend these foam dice as toys for the noobs, they make wonderful room decor and photo props as you can see in the photo below!
5. The Crochet Baby Dwarf or Viking Beanie from The TwistedK
This Etsy shop has tons of cute gaming related items but I’m especially fond of the bibs. Their Cthulhu items are beyond adorable, too!
Most gamers have a closet full of gamer tees. It’s imperative to get the geeklings started out right with their very own gamer tee, too! Pictured below is a similar onesie that I bought from Zazzle for our son’s first trip to GenCon in 2012. As you can see, he was still able to wear it for GenCon 2013.
I bought this tee for my son for one of our GenCon trips and it was a hit. It exudes attitude and epicness – what else could you ask for in a tee?
Whether you’re up all night to get lucky; to soothe a screaming infant; or to get more experience, this tee is a great gift for the gamer parent in your life.
10. Wee Beasties: Bedtime by Andi Smith
A bedtime book that will introduce the wee geeklings to classic fantasy roleplaying game creatures. Written in rhyme with colorful, vibrant, and adorable illustrations that should appeal to gamer geeks of all ages. Within the illustrations are gaming related Easter Eggs as well as an elusive d20 for children and parents to find. The book is available in hardcover, softcover, and super awesome enhanced eBook. The enhanced eBook is narrated by the one and only Brian Lewis and is available in our shop right now!
Shameless plug? Maybe? Okay. YES! 😉
I hope this list helps! Please let me know if you have any suggestions! I’m always on the lookout for more fun gifts for gamers and their kiddos!
